Momentum

mo·men·tum

/mōˈmentəm/
Noun
  1. The quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
  2. The impetus gained by a moving object.
In order to gain, "momentum" I'm setting a blog schedule for myself in hopes of not only keeping myself on task but developing this blog to it's full potential.

Therefore, from now on I will try to create the following posts:

"Jubilation"---1st and/or 3rd Monday of the Month,: there's a lot of giveaway's on the internet.  While I'm not the "all knowing" I'll share ones I find on this day.

"Beneficial"---1st and/or 3rd Wednesday of the Month: This is my chance to share with everyone a new technique I learn or have seen.

"Critique"--2nd and/or 4th Wednesday of the Month: I'm very honest and critical of anything I use. I'll be sharing my thoughts and opinions on this subject, whether you want them or not!

"Completion" 1st and/or 3rd Friday of the Month:  I'll share my wpi's and finished objects on this day!

"Awesomeness" 4th Friday of the Month: My chance to share anything I love or like that I found.

"Picture Perfect"---feel free to join me on Pinterest for giveaway updates, favorite things, giggles, inspiration, and much more!

Goals for the New Year

I've been fascinated with the concept of making a list of knitted objects I want to complete for year 2013.  Although there's not quite 13 for 13, it's a nice little list:

1.) The likehood of me getting married anytime soon is about a ridicolous as it snowy three feet in July, but that's not stopping me from casting on a Evenstar Shawl in hopes of one day seeing it being useful.

2.) A shopping spree at Eat Sleep Knit will yield enough yarn to at least make one catkin.

3.) Although I might not be queen, I want a Golden Lion Throne.

4.) Two of my Christmas skeins,  Knit picks Alpaca Cloud, will be made into an echo flower shawl.

5.) I'm hoping to answer Knitty's Frank Hobbit, of the prestigous Stitches in Time column, challenge to do something creative with this little square before the month of March.

6.) Of course someone special to me just simply needs a Toorie hat in red

7.) It simply wouldn't be a good year without some spinning as well!  I have four ounces from the recently retired Orangejello fibers and a whole pound of merino wool from Knits in Class.

Should keep me busy enough to keep me out of trouble, don't you think?  Besides it beats promising myself to diet and exercise.  Let's face it, my concept of a diet is a chocolate bar every day and the extent of me exercising is doing laundry.  Time to get real and get knitting!

What are your goals for this year?

Contagious

plunks down and grabs a cup of tea

For those of you who don’t know, I’m an intern at the First State Heritage Park and work as a historical interpeter at the John Bell House. The first Saturday of each month we do something huge. November’s was a 18th century market fair where we took the Dover Green (a sort of city park center) back to 1750ish. I was asked and agreed to perform spindle spinning demonstrations.

After a few days of absloute chaos, I thought I owed it to y’all to tell how it went.
In a word: WONDERFULLY.

I had so much FUN! I actively recruited anybody I could convince to listen to me for two seconds to give my selection of drop spindles a try. I had two adults ask indepth questions of honest to goodness actually interested in learning to spin and I directed them as much as I could in the time I had. I had lots of people ask me what I was doing or what was that thing hanging from the string. I had almost everyone I asked give a shot all the way from 3 years old to 75 with only a couple of teases necessary. Those who didn’t want to try, I had plenty for them to touch including locks, rovings, and a couple of different spindles. Anyone who was interested got to listen to me talk about how clothes were made as if I actually was an 18th century girl.

My favorite part of the whole day was when as I was explaining all the work that went into making a piece of cloth to a little boy. His eyes just got bigger and bigger and bigger and he said and I quote “Woah.”

Yeah, “Woah”.

Avast me Hearties!

It's Talk like a Pirate Day!

To celebrate, I editted a well known tune slightly....

Yo ho, yo ho, a Raveler’s life for me.
We knit, we spin, we crochet, and weave,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We tatt and quilt and don’t give a hoot,
Stash up me ‘earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a Raveler’s life for me.
We exort, we pout, we borrow, and buy,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Blackmail and beg, and even high-jack,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a Raveler’s’s life for me.
We hide and stuff, take over closets and rooms,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We’ll take over your household, we’re really a fright,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We’re rascals, angels, villans, and innocents,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We’re Addicicted to yarn and all types of sheep,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a Ravelers’s life for me.
We’ll stashers and destashers,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Till we see a yarn sale, then it’s all up for good,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
We’ll promise to knit you a sweater that won’t itch
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho
Don’t put it in the Washer, or else the plank for you
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Yo ho, yo ho, a Ravelers’s life for me.
We’ll beggars and brazen, ne’er-do-well cads,
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.
Aye, but we’re loved by our mommies and dads,
added in undertone, very rushed
and assorted spouses, siblings, and offerspring
quick catch your breath to finish the tune
Stash up, me ‘earties, yo ho.

A long time coming

Hey there!  I can't believe it's been a year since I've even thought about posting to this blog.

Here's some updates on what I've been doing lately:
1.) Last Year June: Maternal Grandmother moved in with us.  A lot of stress but it's for the best considering her situation.
2.) This Year Mother's Day: Saw my Youngest Sister Graduate.
3.) This Year July: Participated in Tour De Fleece.  Spindle Spun 1,279.
4.) This month: Dad diagnosed with Diabetes.
5.) This month: Participating in the Ravellenic Games 2012.
6.) This Fall: Last Semester of School.  Can't believe it's been eight years since I started College.
7.) This December: Graduating from College.

In the future, I hope to keep this blog updated monthly so stay tuned!

When all else fails...

Today's News:

Winter Knitty is Up!  Squee!  I'm totally making: Maeve Socks for someone I don't care who in blue because well that's the only sock yarn I have!  Other most knits include: Turn of the Glass, Joanie, Lady Lovelace, and Quest.

Second Week of School has been started.  A very easy schedule class wise with almost no homework and would have been better if the times had been better.  Two very short days and two very long days.  I'm glad that it's easy because once I start my internship at Belmont Hall I will need all the time I can get for school work!

I've already reneged my promise to not read ficitions books this year by reading Terry Pratchett's latest *I Shall Wear Midnight*.  And since I've already broken my promise, I figured I might as well go with the flow of things by celebrating all things Pratchett.  Accordingly I'm reading the Discworld novels in order and conquering them very well: 5 down and ? to go!  Feel free to read along with me.  Terry Pratchett is a genius that you can't wrong with.  Expect the unexpected.

Also be sure to check out today's deals and giveaways at Phat Fiber and Dizzy Sheep!

A selfish year

Introspection: The act of looking within one's self

Every year I promise myself to learn something new starting in December.  At first, I thought next year, I'll learn how to spin, but instead I decided to learn something different and more difficult: Selflessness.

My biggest fault, is my first and foremost thought is always myself.  I am not vain, proud, or conceited, merely self-centered.  I know I'm not the best, smartest, prettist, biggest, brightest, fastest, tallests, whateverest, but I think that everyone should notice me, put me first, hear my story first, listen to my words the most often, and get me things.   Even when I do things for others, I'm really doing it for myself, so I'm noticed, so I'm thought to be kind-hearted and giving, so people will like me despite my ackward sigh backword ways.

I'm going to try to correct that next year although by that very trying I realize that I might be conteracting the very goal I'm trying to achieve.  Yet I will try in hopes that eventually I will no longer have to try and maybe, maybe, just maybe I can stop trying so hard in everything I do.

My goals for next year are (in no particular order):

1.) To fullfill my promises to others:
a.) Knit my mom the cardigan I promised her last year
b.) knit the socks I recently promised my mom's best friend
c.) Knit the socks my sister keeps asking for

2.) Regain contact with old friends including my sister

3.) Spend my time wisely so I no longer spend so much time for myself
a.) Less time on the internet
b.) More time on the house
c.) Less time on relaxing
d.) More time with family

4.) Listen first, speak later or not at all....a particularly hard one for me

5.) Knit, crochet, or craft only for others (save to finish the project for me currently on the needles)

6.) Finish everything unfinished

7.) Spend less time in my room, more downstairs with people rather then books

8.) Read no fiction books next year (this will be very very hard for me, as I love to read)

9.) Keep things decent and in order

10.) To stop thinking about myself and think about others...
